Are You A Praying Person?

From: The Old Black Church! (What happen to the Black Church?) Some people pray in the morning instead of before bed.... some people pray only when they're moved to. Some people pray only in a place of worship....Are you a praying person? If so, do it make a difference whether you kneel by the bed or simply close your eyes or hold your partner's hand while you pray? Does it make a difference whether it's morning or night? Does it make a difference whether it's a memorized prayer or not? Do you pray some nights, but not others? Did you pray as a kid but not now? There's a new survey that ask participants about activities done every night or almost every night....It seems African-Americans were most likely to pray or do another religious activity (71%), compared to 45% of Hispanics, 32% of Whites and 18% of Asians....Now I don't believe habits of prayer has anything to do with race..... It has more to do with religious culture and the environment you was raised in.... The idea that Asians don't prayer before they

From: The Old Black Church! (What happen to the Black Church?) Now I found that question at a blog I was visiting early today....The question caused me to ponder what was being ask.. ..If a bookstore owner is a Christian and his book store is a Christian bookstore.... Shouldn't Christian books be the only books sold there? What about books by teachers/preachers who teach a prosperity gospel? According to scripture they are teaching another gospel..... Why do they have space in a Christian bookstore? What about those teachers/preachers who don't believe in the Trinity? Or those who don't believe in hell? Do they deserve space in a Christian book store? What about New Age books? I don't believe Christian Bookstore’s owner should be helping spread false teachings....By selling books by big name heretics and false teachers under the umbrella of Christianity...So the question are store owners responsible for what they sell in their stores? Will that store owner be hel

Marriage Is A God Idea!

From: The Old Black Church! (What happen to the Black Church?) I believe there's a lot to learn from this story...Question: How would you react if your spouse said: “I don’t love you anymore. I’m not sure I ever did. I’m moving out. The kids will understand. They’ll want me to be happy.”This is an absolutely wonderful testimonial of a marriage being tested....This woman chose the more difficult path and was rewarded for it.... She gave her husband the opportunity to realize that what he had was far better than what he was leaving for....I know that our first reaction to hurt is to hurt back... But an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth might not always be the answer... I am not saying all marriages can stand under this kinda of test....Cause I don't know if mind can....I'v been with my husband for over 21 yrs...But what I am saying it's good to see God's idea still works.

The Idea Of Throwing Money At The Preacher Man.

From: The Old Black Church! (What happen to the Black Church?) Have you ever been in a church service were people actual throw money at the preacher? Beside being a distraction I think it's demonic...Now I always wonder were this practice originated from....Could the practices have had it start in the clubs of America? The strip clubs to be precise. If so how did it find it way into the church construct? I was listening to Dr. Gary L. William of The First Baptist Church of Mandarin mention this exact thing in a sermon the other day...He said this practice is very similar to throwing money at strippers when they are entertaining on stage. I could not help but really ponder that statement ... So the practice of throwing money at the preacher and the idea of throwing money at a stripper is one in the same....Both action arise from the same place,"the flesh".....THINK ABOUT IT! It makes sense..... In a strip club a dancer is rewarded for a right move...A preacher

Three historic black denominational churches AME, AME Zion and CME....Unveiled on Wednesday a new national plan aimed at keeping young black males out of prison and in school and church....Their plan is to address the plight of African American males.... I notice that Suzanne Hinn has her own ministry ( and how different does she look!)...From all reports she's the one wanting out....According to the report the couple have been together for some 30 years....To me a divorce after 30 years of marriage is a big deal.....As a beleiver I am very saddened by this news...God hates divorce!( Malachi 2:16) According to pastor Benny the divorce proceedings took him by by surprise....The reason for the divorce is irreconcilable differences....Some of Pastor Benny followers believe that the “devil made her do it” in order to try to separate his church....Others believe that Benny put his ministry before his wife.... I am not trying to judge Suzanne Hinn, nor Pastor Benny but Suzanne Hinn looks like a new person...Any way if our marriage is doing great, we need to Praise God! JESUS has/have been translated into all kinds of things: My help in time of need! My bridge over trouble waters! My lawyer in a court room! My doctor in a sick room, etc....We have to remember, people have seen Jesus as Black, Brown,Yellow--and even Blue-eyed with blonde hair....Are any of them more correct than Elton's view?... I really believe that people conceptualize Jesus to help them understand and grasp who HE is....Therefore, in the case of Elton John, I really believe that's what he was doing....However I think he is going have a hard time "proving" in the Scriptures that Jesus was GAY...In Elton John interview with Parade magazine the singer talked about a lot of things including Jesus being gay.... "He said “I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems"...So the question becomes, Who is Jesus Christ, really? Is Jesus Christ only love? One passage which mentions this is where Apostle Paul wrote in Corinthians 6:19-20: “You are not your own; you were bought at a price.... Therefore honor God with your body.” I guess my next question is why do the body of Christ need a conference for every thing under the sun? Is not the Bible the final authority for all Christians? The Bible instruct us to flee lust ( RUN )... So what can a single conference teach that the Bible has not already outline?

There are many religious rituals and ideas in the old black church...That have been pass down through the years from one generation to the next ...Some of these ideas and rituals don't have nothing to do with salvation but was/are important to our ancestors ...And some of those rituals might still be practice today....With that being said.... I truly believe when our ancestors came into the house of God...Their original purpose and point was to praise God in the best way they knew how....Even if it meant kneeling down in front of the congregation....To them that act alone showed they knew how to humble themselves before an All Mighty God... But, at the same time they were trying to lift up a down people...I strongly believe we should honor and respect does who came before us...I also believe respect should be shown to other religion ....Even if I don't agree with it practiced I believe respect should be shown...Now the young man in the clip be

Billy Graham is the most influential preacher living follow by Charles Swindoll...In a telephone interview conducted in November 2009, Protestant pastors were asked to “name the top three living Christian preachers that most influence them...21% of pastors surveyed said Graham…While Graham’s position at the top may have been expected, the list as a whole was a bit surprising for its lack of diversity ( NO BLACKS ) according to Ed Stetzer, director of LifeWay Research which is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention."Considering our sample includes liberal and conservative, all races and ethnicities, mainline and evangelical, we were surprised that the list looked like mainstream Christian radio and publishing and was not more representative," he said. In New Orleans, Pastor Debra Morton of Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church has canceled her congregation’s monthly Sunday night communion service...Two weeks ago, hemmed in by logistics that couldn’t be changed, her congregation and its guests reoccupied their storm-damaged sanctuary in eastern New Orleans more or less as the Saints and the Vikings squared off....She made it a little easier then by providing televisions in a nearby reception area — “but I dare not challenge them again” with another conflict, she said with a laugh Tuesday....Over 130 million American adults are expected to tune into this Sunday’s NFL championship between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints in Super Bowl XLIV... Some three quarters of all men will watch, and more than half of American women as well–numbers that many churches would love to see on any given Sunday....I believe for the church of today to fight and win we must realize what we are up against. I am aware that most religions think that a natural disaster is a major chance to spread what they believe .... Also it seems that each group will use the fact that they helped with aid of some kind to justify their beliefs...Look at Actor John Travolta and the Church of Scientology....They are apparently flying doctors and ministers to Haiti...It looks like they are taking advantage of the natural disaster to spread their beliefs...According to an Associated Press story, Travolta himself piloted his own Boeing 707, loaded with six tons of military rations and medical supplies to Port-au-Prince.... He brought his wife, Kelly Preston, along for the ride.Aid groups have been desperate to fly their own planes into the over-stressed airport. I guess the days of James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, and Richard Wright are gone...Didn't Toni Morrison and Alice Walker win a Prize for their work?....When I saw this article I wonder do people really see black women or black people in general like this?I will say growing up in the 70's and 80's I was a big fan of E. Lynn Harris and Eric Jerome Dickey...But to be honest I never thought of their books or work as ghetto literature....."Section 8 a hood rat novel","Stacking Papers", "The Last B Standing","A Project Chick"," Married To The Game", and "The Dopeman's wife".
Question: What standard do Essence use to determine who's a bestselling author?

From: The Old Black Church! (What happen to the Black Church?) Parents Rosemere Fernandes de Andrade and her partner Joao are dark-skinned Afro-Brazilians, yet three of their five children are albinos. The family live in the slum of Olinda in north-east Brazil and the children have faced taunts by fellow pupils at their school.

The condition affects around one in 17,000 people. Those with albiinism do not produce enough melanin pigment, which gives color to the skin, hair and eyes and protects the body from the sun's rays.

They often suffer from extreme short-sightedness and a severe sensitivity to light.
Mrs Fernandes, 27,says she struggles to pay the medical bills for daughters Ruth, 10, and Esthefany, eight, as well as five-year-old son Kauan.

She must also buy expensive sun-block and extra clothing to protect their skin.
The mother of five has also been challenged by security guards who insisted she could not be the children's mother.
Mrs Fernandes, of Olinda, said: 'I'm afraid of skin cancer because I can't afford the protection they need.
