From: Mahogany Momma's Black Parenting Blog

I was going through the linen closet this morning and stumbled upon Christopher's 1st pair of shoes. Dad was never one for booties, so of course he had little man polos (didn't even know they made sneakers that tiny - lol). Goodness they grow so fast and yet as I look at all my fellow Facebook moms sending their kids off to prom and graduation, I am in awe because I know thank GOD we still have quite a few more years for him to be my little boy!
From: Mahogany Momma's Black Parenting Blog

My favorite color is red, so you know I just about fell out of my seat when I got a look at the new Swatch Chrono Red collection. While I'm not a jewelry fanatic, I must have a few essentials - hoop earrings that pop, big attention getter rings and of course a stylish watch to match!

Beyond telling you I love the look of these new watches, I'm not so great with all the specifics (lol), so I thought I would share a few details from the website:

Swiss watch and jewellery maker Swatch unveils two new watches in its signature collection of Swiss made precision Irony chronographs. The Chrono Collection presents a pair of Irony Chronos featuring the popular model's classic good looks and timeless style.

Polished stainless steel gives the polished 40mm case, brushed bezel and brushed bracelet a distinguished and self-assured look and feel, while sun-brushed black or red dials present a fashion-wise contrast, with the tone-on-tone counters adding just the right touch of

From: Mahogany Momma's Black Parenting Blog Guest Post by Lauren DeLisa Coleman | Photo Credt: Adam Lindsay

As mothers, it's all about keeping the kids entertained and educated during the holiday season. Here's a way to shake up tradition a bit if you live in the PA/DE/NJ region or might be spending time relatives in the area over Christmas: a visit to Adventure Aquarium, located in Camden, NJ! Adventure Aquarium has gone to great lengths to create a complete holiday offering in its "Christmas Celebration" from now until January 1, 2012. Photos with Santa, live shows with a Scuba Santa, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer displays ideal for photo taking and more are just a few of the fun activities visitors encounter as the music from the Rankin-Bass classic "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" wafts through the speakers creating a pleasant holiday vibe as it converges with the wonder of the aquatic side of nature.

Well engineered, the paths through various zones are easy to navigate and include both indoor (crabs, sharks) and out

Movie night is BIG in our house and of the many flicks we’ve watched Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son was recently added to the list. I was laughing two minutes in and it kept my attention straight through. Martin Lawrence is the master of disguises, three movies in and Big Mommas sassy charm is still a pleasure to watch. Brandon T. Jackson, who plays the stepson, adds his own humorous twist to the mix.

I won’t give it all away, but here is a quick snapshot of the story. FBI agent Malcolm Turner and his stepson Trent go undercover at an all-girls performing arts school after Trent witnesses a murder. True the saying “Like Father, like son” - Malcolm goes undercover as Big Momma and Trent is disguised as her grand-niece Charmaine.

The director did a great job of putting together a comedic cast of familiar faces like Ken J

From: Mahogany Momma's Black Parenting Blog Of all the things I love about creating my own social networks, the BEST part is being able to connect women from all around the globe. Today's sista know - featured black author - is Maria Hebga-Tehuti, recent BBWO member and author of the book 'Motherhood in Taiwan'. Maria is a ' citizen of the world '. Born in Vienna, Austria to Cameroonian parents, she was raised between Austria, Africa and France, before settling down London.

If you are like me and dream of traveling the world and experiencing new things, Maria's story just might peak your interest. Her book is all about making the impossible possible. 'Motherhood in Taiwan' recounts the story of one family who heads off to Taiwan. Here, with no knowledge of the language and a little comprehension of what lay ahead, they would live, work and raise their new family.

Motherhood in Taiwan offers a deeply personal and heart-warming account of one woman's first experience of motherhood. Part travelogue, part memoir and part self

From: Mahogany Momma's Black Parenting Blog At a time when African American men are often depicted poorly throughout mainstream media Tyler New Media breaks that trend with Men Ain't Boys. The film offers a thought-provoking look at issues such as stereotypes surrounding manhood, the results of effective fatherhood and the requirements for maintaining lasting love, relationships and marriages. Men Ain't Boys provides a blueprint for men, women and children to learn how real men live and how real men love.

Here is a letter I received from one of the sistas in my circle, Erica the "Cookie Lady".

In 2004 my daughter was diagnosed with alopecia totalis hair loss, which usually starts as a single quarter-sized circle of perfectly smooth baldness. Alopecia patches usually regrow in three to six months without treatment. Sometimes, hair grows back in white. In another variant, alopecia can produce two or three bald patches. When these grow back, they may be replaced by others. The most extensive form is called alopecia totalis, in which the entire scalp goes bald.

From: Mahogany Momma's Black Parenting Blog It's very cool to be a social media mom! On my facebook page, I recently made a connection with fellow mompreneur Sabrina Carter, the creator of Baby Ellington books series. With books like “My Hair is Curly" and "Please Don’t Yell at Me", Sabrina and her husband have been working hard to provide children with resources that help them create a greater sense of self worth by empowering them through their books.

I particularly think the "Please Don't Yell at Me" book is an interesting one for both children and us parents because GOD Knows they can sometimes do things to drive us crazy. However when parents yell at their kids, its hard to figure out who the kid is versus the parent. Learning how to stay calm, cool-headed, and react firmly but positively with our kids in bad situations is something all parents can work on, myself included.

As soon as I get some of these to read to Chris, I'll share my review with you, but until then feel free to purchase them for yourself at http:/

Not to sound like a commercial but he is REALLY learning while having fun and I'm really happy about that.

Its real hard, as most parents know, to find educational toys that you like and your kid will actually use, but this one is working for us. With holiday sales all around what's also working for me are the super cool discounts available right now on leapfrog.com. I've been patiently waiting to rack up on some games for Chris and now is the right time. The 24.99 Explorer games are $18 at Toys R US and I downloaded 5 Leaplet App Cards for him on the LeapFrog Website... they are usually $14.95 and now they are $11 PLUS they have 25% coupons available on the site AND I found a 15% coupon on retailmenot.com.

From: Mahogany Momma's Black Parenting Blog If you’ve been following my blog, you know that I have been looking for a game system for my son who is 3 going on 33 (lol - I mean 3 going 4). I wanted a learning game system to help him develop is math and reading skills, so I was trying to decide between LeapFrog Explorer and Nintendo DSi. In the end Chris picked the Explorer. We both love it, BUT I decided why stop at one system sooooo I also purchased a Limited Edition Super Mario Wii. Now that we have a Wii, Chris can also enjoy Sesame Street’s new educational video games for preschoolers available on both Ds, PC, and the Wii systems.

I like the new Sesame Street video games for a couple of reasons…

1. I am BIG on educational games. For Wii, there is Sesame Street: Elmo’s A-to-Zoo Adventure and Cookie’s Counting Carnival. Right now we are all ABCs and 123s in my house, so these games are perfect.

2. When Chris was testing out the Explorer he was really into his ‘alone time’. You know toddlers. He is currently i

Perfect Stocking Stuffer for Kids: Tinkerbell and the Great Fairy Rescue

From: Mahogany Momma's Black Parenting Blog You know I am big on Disney Movies Right? (See My Disney DVD Tips Here) Well, if you are looking for the perfect holiday stocking stuffer for your kids OR just an all around cool gift any child would love, I recommend one of Disney’s latest animated movies, Tinkerbell and the Great Fairy Rescue.

Say it with me now, "Faith, Trust, and Pixie dust!”

Watching this particular Disney DVD was one of our favorite movie nights to date. Chris liked it (he’s 4), my hubby loved it (he’s 4 at heart), and I am a Disney fan for life, so it was a big hit all around.

We laughed and don’t tell him I told you, but I did see my hubby cry alittle. I won’t give the story away, but what I can say is this … the ever curious Tinkerbell finds herself on another adventure in very unfamiliar territory. When her fairy friends discover she’s lost, they set out to rescue her and along the way she meets her biggest fan, alittle girl who absolutely loves fairies and wishes her father would spend

From: Mahogany Momma's Black Parenting Blog When it comes to my son, one of my BIGGEST missions in life is to make sure he loves the skin he is in as an African American man AND that he also understands how to accept those differences that make each of our cultures unique. I strongly believe in incorporating multicultural books, dvds, and images into his everyday life. Its is an important part of self esteem building and developing his personal identity, which is why I’m really excited about a new series of multicultural books that I discovered called the Alphabet Kids.

Alphabet Kids is an original, multicultural children’s book series, created by mom, Allegra Joyce Kassin. In search of books that highlight children from all countries to explain diversity to her youngest child, Allegra decided to create her own series. Children ages two to seven can learn from and enjoy a host of diverse characters: Allegra (Italian-American), Elena (Hispanic-American), Isacc (Jewish-American), Oni (African-American), Umar (Arab-Americ

From: Mahogany Momma's Black Parenting Blog “There are simple pop-up books. And there there is the work of Robert Sabuda.” – USA Today

Every child should have their own collection of classic children’s books and fairy tales. Truth be told, I still have my very first Beauty and the Beast Book, but it doesn’t compare to the visual experience you get while reading “Beauty and the Beast, A Pop-Up of the Classic Fairy Tale” with Illustrations and Paper Engineering by Robert Sabuda.

This truly is a pop-up book like no other. I’ve taken a few snap shots to show you how the story literally jumps off the page, BUT you honestly have to buy it to see for yourself. I’m sure you already know the story line, but Sabuda’s style lets you see a classic tale in a whole new way. Personally speaking, Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favorite classics because it was alittle dark and scary in ways every kid can enjoy and the pop-up design of this particular book just adds to this stories suspense and appeal

From: Mahogany Momma's Black Parenting Blog I’ll never forget my first night in the hospital after my son was born. He and I were hanging out in the room and all of a sudden it looked like he was gagging and couldn’t breathe! I picked him up and ran into the lobby to find a nurse. The first one I saw gave me that, “you’re a new mom look.” She said to me, “Infants have a lot of fluid they have to clear out of their system, he’s fine.” At that point I looked at him and he was fine, but how would I have known that?

We soon left the hospital with diapers, baby ointment and a stack of papers that became my “Baby Bible.” They explained breastfeeding, normal body temperature for infants, and little things I never even thought about. Every time Chris got the sniffles or looked ill, I went back to my stack of papers (lol) looking for alittle help. It would have been nice to have alittle How-to guide for new parents and you know what… today one actually exists. It’s called “Dear Parents: When to Call the Doct
